This week, the Iowa ACTE Board approved the attached process to identify CTE scholars to be nominated from Iowa. This year it is a very quick turn-around as the applications are due September 27th. There were not many nominations from the field last year and no CTE students went on in the national process from Iowa. Recognition at this level is one way for us to help push the image of our CTE students forward. All nominations go to the division representatives listed on the form. The FCS representatives to Iowa ACTE are Courtney Teghtmeyer (Cteghtmeyer@clarke.k12.ia.us) and Laura VanWaardhuizen (email@example.com). When you email them your nomination, put in the subject line: CTE Presidential Scholar Nomination so they know that it is a nomination that IFCSE will need to rank as a group before placing their maximum of five in for final scoring. The deadline is September 27th. Below are the links for the criteria and the application. If you have a deserving student, please take a few minutes to complete the application. We want to showcase all of the amazing things that happen in Iowa FCS classrooms!
The first key leader meeting will be on Saturday, October 7th at Iowa State University in the Palmer Building. The meeting will start at 9:00am and is tentatively scheduled to end at noon. An agenda will be emailed to the key leaders a couple of weeks before the meeting. If you have anything you’d like to add to the agenda, please email Courtney Teghtmeyer at CTeghtmeyer@clarke.k12.ia.us
If you signed up at the conference this summer to be a key leader and you did not receive an email from Courtney on Saturday, September 3rd about the key leader meeting, please email me. I may have your email address entered incorrectly, and I’d like to update that information!
The 2018 Iowa Family and Consumer Sciences Educators Conference will be held on Sunday, August 5th- Tuesday, August 7th in Ames, Iowa. Sunday evening will be optional. A conference schedule and registration link will be sent out in the spring of 2018.
Be sure to mark your calendars and spread the word to other FCS teachers in your area. We look forward to seeing you in 338 days!
